What we mean by upgraded
Not all second-hand laptops are prepared equally.
The difference is the work done before sale. A configured laptop should be checked, cleaned, upgraded where needed, and sold with support rather than treated as a quick clearance item.

Worn parts are replaced to match the original specification, then the machine is cleaned and prepared.
Level 2
Refurbished
Basic checks, cleaning and software reset are completed, but internal wear may remain unchanged.
Level 1
Used
Sold as-is with little preparation, limited testing and no meaningful upgrade path.
Practical upgrades
RAM and SSD upgrades are chosen for real everyday performance gains.
